Amathus is extremely excited to be launching it’s Charity project this month. Every month we will be choosing a different charity to support and raise money for. Check our Facebook and Twitter pages for details of any events that are taking place that we are supporting, or pop into our stores and make a contribution to the collection tins that will be placed on the tills!
The charity we have chosen to support this month is a charity dedicated to raising money for the Brain Tumour division of Cancer Research UK, Help Harry Help Others. This charity was created by an astounding young boy, Harry Moseley, who suffered from the illness for 4 years before sadly passing away earlier this year. However, the work he did and the charity he started is incredible and inspiring. Harry’s selfless, positive attitude made him the deserving winner of a number of awards including Britain’s Kindest Kid, the Children’s Champion and the England Footballers Foundation’s first ‘hero’ to name just a few.
Harry’s charity still goes on and all the funds go towards Cancer Research UK. There are some amazing groups out there dedicated to generating funds for this charity, including a very special group of young Londoner’s that have started the ambitious challenge of running each and every one of the London Underground’s numerous tube lines – albeit above ground – in just 9 months!
That is 405 miles, 12 lines, 270 stations and 8 very enthusiastic runners. So roughly a half marathon every week! (It took me months to train for 1 half marathon in a YEAR!)
Starting in mid October; so far group creator Steven Whyley and his team have run some of the longest lines including the Circle line, Bakerloo line, and all of the Northern line’s staggering 41 miles! Friday 9th December sees the next instalment in the team’s challenge and I will be joining them! This week it is the turn of the modest Waterloo and City line and whilst it is a seemingly short journey in comparison (roughly 1.3 miles), for the team it is another milestone towards their goal and is being taken just as seriously.
I am extremely honoured to be taking part and look forward to meeting the team (Steve, Chloe Garrard, Luke Butler, Shaun Purvis, Becky Eighteen, Martin Chapman, Jon Myers and Nick Kindred) and showing Amathus’ support. If anyone wishes to join in the run it starts at Bank Station at 6pm on Friday 9th December, ending at Waterloo!!
